Who we are & What we believe:
The First Spiritualist Church of San Diego has had a
long and colorful history, playing a major role in the development
of Spiritualism in San Diego for more than one hundred years.
It has progressed with the times, seeing many changes in San Diego
as well as within its own parameters.
The purpose of Spiritualism is to promote
the continuity of life.
We do not believe in a vicarious atonement as preached
in some orthodox religions. We are each personally responsible for
our sins and we must make amends for them here and hereafter. It is
far more moral to acknowledge our sins and try to make amends than
to try to place them on the shoulders of another.
We regard Jesus as an exemplar, not a savior. Man has
no savior but himself. We believe that Jesus was divine, but only in
the sense that we are all divine. There is a difference of degree but
not of kind. We also believe, as the Bible states, that Jesus developed
his psychic faculties and was a supreme master of Spiritual Law.
Moreover, he was in close touch with the spirit world and demonstrated
this by his survival after his death. His teaching of brotherhood,
love, humility and service is the basis of Spiritualism as we
know it today.
We do not claim to know everything. We don’t believe
anyone does. Knowledge is infinite and we shall always be learning.
What we do maintain, is that we have caught a glimmer of truth which
inspires us to search for more, rejecting anything hat does not appeal
to our god-given reason and accepting that which is logical and uplifting.
What makes Spiritualism unique is the evidence of survival after
death - obtainable through various methods, though, specifically mediumship.
Whereas most religions preach the afterlife as a hope, faith or belief,
we maintain that any reasonable person can prove it for themselves
through their own Spiritual development.
We do not ask you to simply take us for our word & believe
what we say is true. What we do suggest is that you make your own inquiry
and study the information available on the topic.
The First Spiritualist Church holds regular Worship
Services on Sunday mornings with Healing Services preceding.
In addition, we hold Psychic Fairs, Fundraising Dinners, host parties
to celebrate various holidays & events, potluck lunches, and
offer many classes on various methods of Spiritual Development & Healing.
Some of the classes that have been taught at the church are: Herbology,
Spiritual Law, Astral Projection, Trance, Alpha Thinking, Tarot and
Astrology, The Celestine Prophecy, The Mayan Calendar, and Ascension
. Recently classes have included The Yuen Method of Chinese Energetics,
Psychic Development, Theta Healing, Meditation, Metaphysical Foundation,
The Michael Teachings, and many others.
